Overview
The medieval residents of Windout Farm would have been no strangers to outdoor facilities, but it’s unlikely that they would have imagined anything like this. The deck, screened for privacy, has lovely hillside views but, as well as a table and chairs, there are a giant pair of rolltop baths for you to enjoy them from! Let alone the views from the deck of the bookable sauna, or the plunge pool beside it.
Although the beams and dimpled walls of the Piggery are fairly traditional materials, a pleasantly quirky spirit is maintained inside as well on the bathing deck. Soft wood colours in the kitchen, shower room and living space suggest a subtle and thoughtful modernisation of the ancient building. That is, until you get to the bed, which is reached by climbing the ladder to where it hangs suspended from the ceiling. Although if you don’t fancy the climb or have the kids with you, then the sofas fold out into more grounded sleeping spaces.
Visit in spring and you’ll see the baby chicks hatching or possibly get caught in the driveway by the perennial local traffic problem, a lamb jam. Dartmoor and the Devon coast are on hand for hiking, biking and all sorts of exploration and, when you get back, you might just want to run a nice, hot, outdoor bath or two!
The Old Piggery has featured in The Evening Standard, The Times, Lonely Planet, and Ideal Home.

Sam and Felicity fell in love with Windout Farm the moment they set foot on its wonky farmyard in 2009. They live on the close to 300-acre farm with their four children and farm organic livestock, passionate about farming to the highest standards and preserving the land for generations to come. The also manage 12 acres of apple orchard and plan to produce the best juice from specially selected varieties in a few years' time!
Wildlife & Environment
Located on the eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park, Windout Farm is steeped in 900 years of history and nestled within the iconic rolling landscape of the Devonshire countryside. Our guests say...
Kevin
Me, my 12 year old son, 9 year old daughter spent 4 nights at The Old Piggery and loved it. The accommodation has everything you need, super comfy beds, great shower, well equipped kitchen, games, books... and of course the baths with the views. It was such a relaxing place to be, and everyone at the farm was so lovely. The kids loved seeing the lambs and chicks. It's really well placed as well for exploring around Exeter. Wish we could have stayed for longer!

We had such a lovely stay at The Old Piggery. Peaceful, relaxing and recharged the batteries! The bed was super comfy so you forgot about being suspended from the ceiling! Owner provided fresh farm eggs and we enjoyed eating these for breakfast on the large terrace.

We had a fantastic time, the hosts were very accommodating and the place and amenities were well thought out! Loved it :) would happily recommend and return. Gorgeous location and the bath tubs was a great idea. Ideal for seeing Devon in any direction, particularly Dartmoor and Exeter.

We adored our time at The Old Piggery, the location was so beautiful and secluded, we didn't see another person until we were leaving. The barn itself was stunning, everything was so comfortable and there was plenty there to keep you entertained. Travelling with a baby meant we chose somewhere with central heating, not usually something we look for, but this was definitely needed given the time of year of our visit. The bathroom was lovely, the shower perfect, and everything you needed was in the kitchen. The addition of having eggs left for us was great, they were incredibly tasty and fresh! The outdoor bath tubs really were the highlight, what a perfect way to relax and unwind at the end of the day. Thank you for a great stay!

I had the most magical time. I booked this trip to rest and reset on my own and I certainly did that. I had a bath out under the stars every night and walked for miles across beautiful Dartmoor. It was everything I needed and more.
06/11/2023Lily
We absolutely loved our stay at The Old Piggery. The place was so unique, peaceful and we couldn't get enough of the outdoor baths!
14/08/2023Elizabeth
We booked to stay away for our 1st year wedding anniversary and booked this location due to it being rural and the bathtubs on the decking. The weather was kind to us during our stay which made the view super visible, lovely long driveway. We did struggle having a bigger vehicle to park in the area but had room to turn around. Decorated and furnished well in keeping with the rustic barn aesthetic. Lovely soft, plentiful towels. Definitely the location if you’re wanting a couple of relaxing days in the countryside to unwind and read a book.

We had the most magical time at The Old Piggery. Such a wonderful place and the outdoor baths were the cherry on the cake. Watching the swallows and sheep for hours soaking in the tub was exactly what we needed. The Old Piggery had everything we needed and more for our mini break away! We cant wait to visit again one day!

We had a fabulous 2-night stay at The Old Piggery for our joint birthday celebrations. The cottage was equipped with everything you could need and we could have quite happily stayed for longer (I would have moved in!). The weather was divine and made the outdoor bath experience breathtaking, with amazing views into the valley. Even though the location is on a working farm, it's so quiet you can only hear birdsong. Dartmoor National Park is not too far away (around a 45 min - 1hr walk to the edge) and has many walks and a lovely pub at Fingle Bridge to enjoy.
24/05/2023Shanna
We had a really relaxing and peaceful stay. It was so quiet, tranquil and not overlooked at all which meant we could truly relax in the baths overlooking the rolling hills of Devon.
12/05/2023Will
We chose to stay at the old Piggery, to celebrate my birthday. Following on from Covid we have not had a holiday, and we are really looking forward to a weekend break.
15/10/2021Aviva
Utterly fabulous, beautiful secluded barn overlooking a orchard valley with sheep free grazing. Total peace and quiet.
13/08/2021kelly
Amazing relaxing serene place to stay
16/06/2021Gary
My family and I had a lovely stay on Windout Farm. The two baths were a dream, with views looking over the fields and birds flying above. The Piggery was very comfortable and well decorated and had everything we needed for a lively escape.
02/06/2021Jenny
We just adored the barn! And the bathtubs and the view were the main reason for booking.
05/05/2021Harriet
We had a fantastic 2 night stay at The Old Piggery. The roller top outdoor bathtubs were great and a quirky alternative to a hot tub. The views were amazing and we heard and spotted lots of different birds whilst drinking our morning cuppa. We visited a small local pub (Teign House Inn) and then went into The Quay in Exeter for an evening meal at On The Waterfront - all within a 20 minute drive. We also visited Dartmoor National Park and the Eden Project. Would definitely recommend this place!
19/10/2020Zoe
We have just returned from the most incredible stay at The Old Piggery, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice peaceful escape. The bathtubs on the deck were the perfect addition, and provided a couple of beautiful star gazing evenings with incredible views.
23/09/2020Sophie
Just wanted to send you a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our relaxing break on your farm. We spent hours each day lying in the baths and saw so many stars last night — a very welcome change for us as we’re used to all the light pollution in London! The champagne in the fridge was a thoughtful touch too — thank you for that.
18/09/2020Loic
My husband and I have just returned from an idyllic stay at the old piggery. It was exactly what we were needing and more. The chance to completely relax and unwind in peace and quiet away from busy life. Couldn't fault it at all and although only spent 2 nights there I feel like I have the holiday blues. The owners were lovely and friendly, Would most definitely recommend and will certainly be booking another trip.
07/09/2020Holly
Absolutely beautiful. Description was spot on. The weather made it all the more perfect. Loved the mornings listening to the wildlife. The baths just set the scene. Beautiful place. Lovely owners . Will Definitely return
28/08/2020Kay
We stayed at the old piggery, Windout barn, Devon for 3 nights and had to leave a reveiw so other people can experience this amazing place! Firstly, I should add that I choose this as the place to propose to my girlfriend and it didn’t disappoint! Peaceful, secluded, romantic and lots of character. It’s lovely to be in the middle of a working farm but also for it to be so super quiet. Amazing views to wake up to and admire while having a relaxing dip in the beautiful outdoor baths. The accommodation is well kept and cosy and the amazing hanging bed was the comfiest bed we’ve ever slept in!!! I cannot write this review without mentioning and thanking the hosts who went over and above to help me get everything ready for the big question. Thank you!
24/07/2020Dean
Amazing locations, stunning scenery and the perfect quiet country getaway!
06/07/2020Naomi
We had a lovely 2 day break! Enjoyed the gorgeous baths, soaked up the views and felt super rested by the time we left!

Amazing - a family escape into the wilds of Devon with bike rides, family games and a lot of bathing!
06/03/2020Bethan
A lovely peaceful place to be present in your own thoughts. The baths were a fun touch, the farm was gorgeous to walk around in, and the local town (30min drive) was very cute.
02/03/2020Delia
Lovely anniversary weekend at the Old Piggery during Storm Dennis. Made for great bubble baths in the evenings! The cottage was cosy and relaxing, perfect getaway for a few nights and great location to visit south Devon and Dartmoor... we had quite a few cream teas! The hosts were really friendly and accommodating, all in all a brilliant weekend. We’ll be back soon!
14/02/2020Henry
Lovely hosts, fantastic property and gorgeous view
31/01/2020Robbie
Exactly as shown in the pictures, absolutely loved it. Peaceful, could happily set up home there!
15/01/2020Daisy
We had a lovely stay at The Old Piggery in January to celebrate a birthday. The space was beautiful, well designed and super cosy. The baths and that view are the real highlight, but the canopied bed and cosy living area provided the perfect space to snuggle up and unwind.
08/01/2020Rosanna
Lovely little place and the baths are a very nice touch!
29/11/2019Bradley
Truly relaxing break! The cottage was well equipped and cosy and the hosts were very friendly and gave lots of good suggestions for things to do in the area. Extra touches like breakfast items (eggs from the farm), milk and bread were lovely. The outdoor baths and views made the experience!!
05/11/2019Rebecca
The accommodation was lovely and spotlessly clean. The peace and quiet was exactly what we needed and the outside baths are an extra quirky touch!
12/04/2019Leanne
We had a wonderfully relaxing time at the Old Piggery. It has beautiful views over the rolling Devon countryside. Our hosts were extremely thoughtful leaving us bread, bacon and milk. The best part by far though are the stunning baths. We sat out every night under the stars relaxing.
27/02/2019Hannah
Very secluded and tranquil with mainly sheep for company. This is a working farm but we barely saw or heard a soul. The owners were very welcoming and the accommodation was perfect. Clean and tidy with plenty of bed linen, towels and even dressing gowns, perfect for putting on after a candlelit bath outside on the decking overlooking fields of apple trees and sheep.
13/08/2018Sam
WOW, what an amazing place to stay. We stayed for three nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was everything and more than our expectations. We loved the area, the local village, walks in the countryside and just relaxing on the decking. The hosts were all excellent from making sure we were happy, fresh produce and exploring the farm. The baths were that extra special finishing touch to have with a glass of wine under the stars. A big thank you to Felicity, Sam, their parents and farm family and colleagues, we definitely recommend and will visit again
11/06/2018Rebecca
We had the most fantastic time! Everything about the place was just what we wanted and magnificent with it: from the quality of the fittings; to the funkiness of the apartment; to the idyllic landscape all around; and finally to the fantastic pair of roll-top baths on the private deck - perfect for lounging at any time of the day or night, and an inspired touch.
19/04/2018Neil
We had a fabulous Easter weekend staying at the old piggery . The directions were clear - the accommodation was lovely inside - and very well equipped with very thoughtful touches - flowers - fresh eggs, bacon and bread The outdoor baths were fabulous - although the weather was not on our side ! It was lovely to see the new lambs and to find out more about the farm life from our hosts .This is a very special relaxing place in beautiful surroundings . We can’t wait to return !!
29/03/2018Karen
Lovely relaxing few days in this quirky cottage with suspended bed and outdoor baths! Great welcome pack of bread, eggs, milk and bacon and a well equiped kitchen. Perfect for a much needed break
15/03/2018Michelle
We had the most amazing stay at The Old Piggery, the cute quirky cottage was just the break and relaxation we needed. The cottage is beautiful and everything has really been thought out. The bed is super comfy and being up high means that in the morning you have the most amazing views out across the orchard and sheep. We made the most of the stunning outdoor baths and had one each morning with a cup of tea watching the sun rise up over the orchard and each evening to star gaze. The endless amount of hot water meant we spent many hours in there. There is something about outdoor bathing which is so relaxing. The cottage had everything we needed to make some lovely food and the supplies that were left when we arrived were very thoughtful and the eggs were super delicious. We decided to stay in both nights and make use of our time at the cottage instead of eating out. We enjoyed cycling along the estuary and a lovely walk and popped for some supplies at the local shop, all which is within a few minutes drive. Thank you for the most amazing weekend, we will definitely be back!
19/01/2018Charlie
The place was fantastic. Beautifully secluded, overlooking the country hills, and in the perfect location to explore the villages all around the north part of Dartmoor. A 5 mile walk in nearby Belstone, cream tea in Chagford and a bath underneath a starlit sky have to be the highlights. Sam and Flic were very friendly and their dogs Max and Bob were the most affectionate you could hope to meet!
06/01/2018Ross
Its not often you get to drive down a country lane passing beautiful countryside, hay bales, sheep, pheasants on your way to your weekend accommodation .....Welcome to The Old Piggery! Our weekend here was a wonderful, tranquil, relaxing experience. We were surrounded by wonderful countryside and the outdoor baths were such a luxury! Bathing under the stars with uninterrupted views is a memory that will stay with us forever. The hosts were very welcoming and we even got to see some new born chicks! I cannot recommend this wonderful place enough. It completely recharged our batteries.
24/11/2017Danielle
The outdoor baths a real treat with fantastic views. The Piggery warm and cosy, well equipped, the setting peaceful with the added bonus of being located in the farmyard.
01/11/2017Alison
We were very excited about spending our first few days as a married couple here and it didn't disappoint! We had an amazing stay- just wished we had booked for longer!
18/09/2017Gemma
The piggery is absolutely beautiful - its been very tastefully decorated and the baths outside make it a stay you won`t forget. You have privacy but there is also a homely feeling from being on the farm.
15/09/2017Kati
Rustic, rural and beautiful. Loved the remote location and the layout of the accommodation. Slept amazingly well on the suspended bed. Fully equipped kitchen and heavenly toiletries in the bathroom. Fresh bread, bacon, eggs and butter supplied, very thoughtful and incredibly tasty. And then of course there's the small matter of the outdoor bathtubs. What a genius idea, and the most relaxing bath ever. Thank you to Felicity and Sam for a most wonderful stay, we will be back :)
16/06/2017Sharon
Absolutely loved it, fantastic setting, very relaxing and the outdoor baths were BRILLIANT!
21/05/2017Jess
‘A super special, sweet, quirky converted stone studio space on a working organic farm – and you can buy all the goodies produced on the farm! The fun, welcoming vibe here and the winning touch in the form of the outside side-by-side baths on your own private deck overlooking the apple orchard meant we had to add the space to the Canopy & Stars collection! I’d stay again in a flash!’

My fiancée and I had a wonderful short break at The Old Piggery. The cottage was in really good shape and very comfortable. The outdoor baths were magnificent and we were very impressed by the temperature of the hot water tap. The kitchen had everything one could need and we were glad to see eco friendly washing up liquid and soap were provided. The bathroom/shower was clean and large enough for our needs. Finally, the location was really good for exploring Dartmoor, Exeter or the Devon coast. We also really appreciated the complimentary eggs and prosecco.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Old Piggery. The place was so unique, peaceful and we couldn't get enough of the outdoor baths!

We had a really relaxing and peaceful stay. It was so quiet, tranquil and not overlooked at all which meant we could truly relax in the baths overlooking the rolling hills of Devon.

We chose to stay at the old Piggery, to celebrate my birthday. Following on from Covid we have not had a holiday, and we are really looking forward to a weekend break.

My family and I had a lovely stay on Windout Farm. The two baths were a dream, with views looking over the fields and birds flying above. The Piggery was very comfortable and well decorated and had everything we needed for a lively escape.

We just adored the barn! And the bathtubs and the view were the main reason for booking.

We have just returned from the most incredible stay at The Old Piggery, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice peaceful escape. The bathtubs on the deck were the perfect addition, and provided a couple of beautiful star gazing evenings with incredible views.

Thank you!

A lovely peaceful place to be present in your own thoughts. The baths were a fun touch, the farm was gorgeous to walk around in, and the local town (30min drive) was very cute.

We had a lovely stay at The Old Piggery in January to celebrate a birthday. The space was beautiful, well designed and super cosy. The baths and that view are the real highlight, but the canopied bed and cosy living area provided the perfect space to snuggle up and unwind.

Truly relaxing break! The cottage was well equipped and cosy and the hosts were very friendly and gave lots of good suggestions for things to do in the area. Extra touches like breakfast items (eggs from the farm), milk and bread were lovely. The outdoor baths and views made the experience!!

The accommodation was lovely and spotlessly clean. The peace and quiet was exactly what we needed and the outside baths are an extra quirky touch!

We had a wonderfully relaxing time at the Old Piggery. It has beautiful views over the rolling Devon countryside. Our hosts were extremely thoughtful leaving us bread, bacon and milk. The best part by far though are the stunning baths. We sat out every night under the stars relaxing.

Lovely relaxing few days in this quirky cottage with suspended bed and outdoor baths! Great welcome pack of bread, eggs, milk and bacon and a well equiped kitchen. Perfect for a much needed break

The outdoor baths a real treat with fantastic views. The Piggery warm and cosy, well equipped, the setting peaceful with the added bonus of being located in the farmyard.

We were very excited about spending our first few days as a married couple here and it didn't disappoint! We had an amazing stay- just wished we had booked for longer!

The piggery is absolutely beautiful - its been very tastefully decorated and the baths outside make it a stay you won`t forget. You have privacy but there is also a homely feeling from being on the farm.

Absolutely loved it, fantastic setting, very relaxing and the outdoor baths were BRILLIANT!
