Overview
The stylish surroundings of Eyl let you enjoy the wilderness of Bodmin in style and comfort. You can laze in the super king-size bed and watch birds dart among the wildflowers through the huge window, or enjoy silent starlit skies thanks to the off-grid dome’s lack of light pollution. The well-equipped, adjoined kitchen and modern bathroom take care of the basics, while an indulgent bathtub lets you literally soak in the tranquility of the area known locally as The Peaceful Valley. The spaces at Ekopod are each set in their own area of the meadow, close enough for groups to create a community vibe if several are booked together. You might see your neighbours from time to time and meet other guests if you head up to the main barn to charge devices or investigate the snacks on offer at the honesty shop.
From the cosy nest of Eyl you can hike out across the moors, visit the dramatic ruins of Tintagel on the cliffs and explore miles of the coastal path on foot or by bike. Dolphins and whales can be spotted on boat trips round the bays and beaches run from tiny echoing coves to great strips of sand where the waves break perfectly for keen riders. Country pubs hide in the folds of the hills and bright restaurants sit on the seafront serving the freshest fish, but you can always just head back to Eyl and spend the evening in your own piece of countryside.

Outdoor & active
You can walk the coastal path as far as you like (it's quite a long loop) but a particularly pretty section is the walk from Boscastle to Tintagel. We recommend you park in Boscastle, get the bus to Tintagel and walk back.
There's also the Camel Trail, a 17 mile traffic-free cycle and walking path based on the route of the old railway.
The surrounding area offers not only some incredible scenery, with miles of Bodmin Moor to explore, but plenty of activities. You could climb Roughtor and Brown Willy, the highest peaks in Cornwall and the whole area is criss-crossed by walking and cycling trails.
Just one of the many sights is Golitha Falls, a long series of cascades located a short walk along the river Fowey through ancient oak and beech woodland. If you start from the carpark on the east side of Sibblyback lake, it's a 7 or 8 mile hike.
If you fancy learning to surf, Widemouth beach is a popular spot with plenty of places to hire gear or get lessons.
Places to visit
Tintagel castle, supposedly (along with a few hundred other places) the legendary birth place of King Arthur, is just north from you.
Padstow is just half an hour up the coast and aside from being a beautiful port town, it's home to Rick Stein's restaurant, fishmonger and cookery school.
Port Isaac, Boscastle and Bude - visit one of these small coastal fishing villages
Of course, if you're in the area and you're staying at Ekopod, you can't miss the chance to visit The Eden Project. Cornwall's iconic complex of biodomes is much more than a botanical garden, with activities and educational things to see and do, making a full day trip almost a necessity rather than a possibility.

Meet your hosts
Ekopod was established with just two glamping pods in 2010, when glamping was just getting started, we believe it was the first site to have a Geodesmic dome in the UK. Matt and Rachael (a brother and sister team) took over Ekopod in June 2017.
Their move into glamping was inspired by backpacking travel that involved wild camping in Russia and staying in yurts in Mongolia. Blown away by the sense of wonder and adventure that being so remote and living so close to nature can create they came back determined to provide that magic for their guests in the UK. With over 30 years of hospitality experience between them, in hotel and restaurant management respectively, taking over a glamping business seemed to be the perfect venture
While looking for sites they found and fell in love with Ekopod. Since taking over at Ekopod they have restored the two pods that were there originally and have now constructed 5 more. In 2021 they won gold in the Cornwall Tourism Awards for Glamping Business of the Year and Bronze for Wildlife Friendly Tourism Business.
Their vision is
• To provide a sense of remoteness; all the glamping units are set in their own space, with private terraces and away from each other.
• To provide a relaxing way for guests to get close to nature, enjoy starry skies and outside adventures but with more luxury and ease than a standard camping trip allows.
• To give back to the land the site is on, by working on habitat restoration for native British species and creating an environmentally friendly business
Environmental policy
The site is designed to try and be as environmentally friendly as possible. The site is off grid so there is no wi-fi or no electricity in the pods. Water is provided by the onsite spring and they have a bio digestor for waste. There is electricity in the main barn for charging items (all the electricity from our energy supplier is from renewable sources). The lighting in the pods is by solar power and candlelight, the heating in the pod is by wood burner
Wildlife
One of the most important things Matt and Rachael want to do at Ekopod is to make the site as wildlife friendly as possible.
They have drawn up a 5 year habitat management plan with a local ecologist to create more biodiversity. So far work has included woodland management, bracken management and creating wildlife ponds.
They have also worked with a local wildlife sanctuary to release rescued hedgehogs back into the wild at Ekopod.
In the spring and summer quite often swallows nest in the kitchens of Eyl and Nessa so if you have some swallow babies keeping you company please don’t worry, the parents seem not to care about humans being around. Matt and Rachael apologise for the mess they make and thank you for helping us look after them!
There are dormice, bird, bat and hedgehog boxes around site, bird feeding stations and they deliberately keep a lot of the site wild to provide habit and shelter for all the insects, amphibians, birds and mammals that live at Ekopod. For your wildlife sightings you’ll have most luck early in the morning (especially with the deer).
They’d love it while you’re there if you would consider downloading the ORKS app (Online Recording Kernow and Scilly) and record any wildlife you spot!
There are some wonderful pockets of wilderness around Ekopod for nature lovers where owls, red kite, peregrine falcon, deer, foxes, otters and even beavers have been sighted. On the North Coast you can take wildlife boating trips where if you are lucky it possible to see anything from seals, to dolphins, whales and basking sharks.
Ekopod is a proud business supporters of The Cornish Wildlife Trust

It was beautiful, the weather was bad but it was really nice to stay in and chill

Absolutely incredible, location and accommodation was perfect. So nice to spend a couple of days going back to basics

Perfect place for winter glamping! We arrived on the first day as the sun was setting - there are a few pods on the site but due to the layout and hillside, it feels so secluded and you are not overlooked. Once the wood burner is on, the Pod soon heats up and its the perfect place to cosy up for the night. The last morning was 2 degrees and frosty, but we soon got warm. The weather was so good we were able to eat breakfast on the decking (wrapped up in layers of course!) The kitchen is well stocked and great for cooking meals. The online guidebook provided helped us plan our entire trip - from 3 good walks, a distillery tour and great local places to eat, each with time /distance from the site. The best thing about our stay - we could share it with our dog Lyca. She enjoyed her stay as much as we did, and enjoyed snoozing by the woodburner at night.

Fab stay! Lots of personal touches including welcome goodies and a banner as it was mine and my partner's 30th birthdays. Bed was massive and so comfy! Plenty of room and a lovely experience.

Amazing place with amazing hosts . Really tranquil place with great amenities and facilities . You won’t be disappointed with eyl

We had a lovely time at Eyl. The pod was very spacious and the bathroom and kitchen were perfectly equipped. We had an issue with the log burner which was smoky when lit, however we were reassured that this had not happened before and Rachael and Matt were super helpful in dealing with the issue. This meant we had to put the fire out, making the pod quite cold (also as it was March!) but the heavy quilts on the bed were incredibly warm. We visited a couple of local pubs which were great, especially the Port William Inn which had some lovely vegan options. We also visited the St Kitts Herbary, whose products were used in the pods, where we got some gifts for family etc. as they smelled incredible! Overall we had a great couple of nights, and would definitely go again!

It was a perfect long weekend break. Just enough charm and character mixed with the glam that goes into glamping to really make it a weekend to remember for my girlfriends 30th birthday.

It was good, warm and perfect for a unwinding

I stayed here with my husband and two young children (5 years old and 11 months old) in November. We thought the dome was wonderful and really enjoyed our stay. I have not stopped talking about it and have recommended this place to everyone I know! I was initially worried about the temperature but it was only chilly first thing in the morning before we got the logs burning or when we first arrived back from our days activities. In fact with the fire going the dome heats up really well - some nights we put too many logs on and ended up sweating! The bathroom and kitchen area are well equipped - so lovely having a hot shower/ bath while at looking out at such beauty. The only issue we had was lighting - you have to really conserve the solar powered lighting carefully or else get dinner on earlier in the day. Inside the tent was well lit with cute fairy lights and plenty of candles. Matt was super helpful onsite - delivering wood (free in winter!) and lending us a big pot to make soup! Lastly there are tonnes of interesting things to do locally - thankyou to the hosts for the recommendations. We did the Camel Way, Golitha Falls and the Eden Project - all worthwhile.
11/11/2019Charlie
Hidden away in the Cornish countryside stands this unique property. Set just back far enough to not be overlooked and have the sense of privacy - whilst lying in the hot bath full of bubbles and steam, doors wide open and just loving that view. The log burner in the dome warming up the inside and the crisp comfy bed welcoming - just perfect.

Our stay was faultless. We were so impressed with our pitch. We’ve stayed on many glamping sites before but none of them compare to this. It was clean, stunning & all of the little details didn’t go unnoticed. All of the pods were a really good distance apart so we had total privacy. We loved every minute, have be recommending it since the second we arrived and will definitely be returning.
28/06/2019Alice
Incredible from the moment we arrived, very peaceful. Lovely well kept pod. Wouldn't change a thing.

Lovely relaxing stay at Eyl Ekopod. Great facilities, beautiful setting and exactly what we needed for our anniversary get away! Very helpful host who appeared minutes after texting him with a question about the water. Lovely welcome pack of local produce and gorgeous local toiletries. Attention to detail was great.
13/05/2019Robyn
My wife and I took our 6 month old baby for his first camping experience. Everything about the Eyl pod was fantastic. The Pod itself was warm even when the temperatures dropped to around 0°c, the kitchen has everything you need to create full meals and the bathroom has a large bath/shower and a flushing toilet. We never ran out of hot water and the solar lights never went dim. It is 5* camping at its finest and will definitely return and recommend it to everyone
29/03/2019Jonathan
One of a line accommodation with no luxury spared. Fantastic getaway from the stress of urban life

The stay was amazing as the hosts had thought of everything you would need! The ekopod was cosy and well located. When we had trouble lighting the fire, we sent a text and Matt had come up within 5 minutes to help. The pod was clean, the kitchen was well equipped and clean also and The bathroom was luxurious for glamping and again clean and amazing toiletries! The barn area with electricity and a freezer was perfect and well located! I would recommend the ekopod to anyone.

We stayed at Eyl for two nights in December as a birthday gift. The Ekopod was very luxurious with an easy to use log burner and fan, sufficient wood and kindling provided, lots of of the grid lighting including candles, lovely blankets and hot water bottles, a well stocked kitchen in terms of crockery and cutlery etc, and perfect edible treats!

The location was beautiful and tranquil with amazing views of the Cornish countryside. The geodome was absolutely amazing - one of the best places we have ever stayed. We could see the Milky way!

We're super excited to be adding Matt's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for Nessa should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!

This was the perfect place for our mini moon. We were able to relaxed and disconnect after the chaos of the big day and with such a relaxed and calm vibe it was just what we needed! The pod was so lovely and the touch of the just married sign was really sweet. Super clean and cosy too!
