Overview
After 100 years as a dairy and cow barn, Gold Top has been transformed into a place to stay that has a contemporary feel and all your creature comforts, but with one hoof planted in its agricultural past.
There are milk churn bedside tables, raw plaster walls and sanded floorboards, gold lights and coloured tiling and the bed is about as far from a pile of straw as you can imagine – a super king of unbelievable comfort. The kitchen boasts a full-size fridge/freezer, modern oven and even a dishwasher, while the bathroom has both shower and double-ended bath. You can look out over the fields from the mezzanine (where you’ll find the other double bed), sink into the sofa and enjoy the glow of the wood burner or soak in your private wood-fired hot tub with views across the fields.
A short wander through Gold Top's garden will lead you to a twinkly lit bridge, where you'll find yourself in your very own meadow complete with firepit and picnic area. There are a few other spaces at Northblows, so you might see other guests on occasion. There’s much to find in the local area, coffee roasters, champagne makers and much more, so do borrow bikes to explore. Or take the short drive to Knepp Rewilding Project to use the Kindred Sauna!

Meet Nicola
Nicola is a busy parent of three boys, a former art teacher and now interior designer and event organiser with a passion for creating special spaces and times for people who need a break and time to reconnect with nature. Nicola lived the commuter life out of nearby Brighton for years and opted out to grow veggies and let their free-range kids under open skies with wall to wall greenery 8 years ago. They know their local area well and explore it often on foot or by bike and the coast on paddle board. They want to share this easy to reach space with others who could do with a change of scenery and a breather. They can also recommend local yoga classes and treatments. The Wisp and Gold Top are your spaces whilst you are here and they will do everything they can do to ensure you get the most from your break.
Wildlife & the environment
Northblows is located on the edge of the South Downs National Park. They have barn owls who fly and hunt most mornings and late afternoons. Sometimes brave deer come up to the neighbouring fields (they live in nearby Spithandle Woods a lovely place to explore). You will hear busy woodpeckers in Autumn and cuckoos in spring, Swallows in summer, sheep and cattle graze the local farmers fields over winter. Northblows is also in an International Dark Skies Reserve.
They are supporting an initiative to revive the open common onto which Northblows faces. They also join in local litter picks to keep their hedgerows and ditches unpolluted.

We had a fabulous time at Gold Top and found every aspect of the booking to be really seamless and easy. The space was beautiful and exactly as described, the instructions on the website and from the owners were clear and helpful, and we wanted for nothing.

Gorgeous barn conversion. We all felt immediately at peace with no want for distraction back from 'normal' life. Lovely walks all around. It's been beautifully done with amazing, comfy beds.
25/10/2024Claire
It was a perfect stay away from our busy lives, in a cosy, quirky and stylish little bolt hole! Star gazing in the hot tub was highlight. We would most certainly return!
23/10/2024Sonia
Dreamlike perfection in an oasis of beautiful interiors and countryside. The barn is so lovingly converted and furnished. The outdoor spaces are vast, but with cosy books. Having a massive hot tub, fire pit, BBQ and picnic areas is so lavish. The bed in the main bedroom is so comfortable and huge, gorgeous linen. Gorgeous touches like bath salts and local coffee make it very like a treat. The hosts are brilliant - responsive and lovely. Will certainly be back!
04/10/2024Sarah
We had a wonderful stay at Gold top, pure calm and relaxation. Star gazing in the hot tub was perfect. We had best nights sleep we've both had in months.
30/09/2024Sophy
Perfect, peaceful and beautiful. The most wonderful few days at gold top. Personal highlights were star gazing in the hot tub, bike rides through the downs trail and reading a book in the beautiful bed.
18/09/2024Izzy
We had a wonderful couple of days at Gold Top - we were fortunate to have beautiful weather to enjoy the hot tub and to watch simply stunning sunsets. Also, the owners had taken the trouble to highlight local walks which we took advantage of, walking along an older railiway line to the lovely village of Henfield and then on along the river to the Fountain pub, and home. The original cow barn has been tastefully converted and ensured a really comfortable stay including a wonderful walk in shower and very spacious bedroom. The bedding alone was simply gorgeous.
16/09/2024Alison
We stayed at Gold Top as part of my wife's 40th birthday celebrations, and it was wonderful. The cottage is finished to a high standard, the hosts were really helpful and friendly, and the hot tub was extremly welcome after long days of exploring the locla area!
23/08/2024Ben
Myself and two daughters (10 & 13) had a lovely stay at Gold Top. Had everything you needed and was quiet, comfy and relaxing. Was amazing to switch off and not have TV, WiFi and devises. Lovely quality time together and memories made!
29/07/2024Kate
A truly wonderful and relaxing place. Everything was perfect, Gold Top decor was unique and rustic. It had everything we needed. The bed was super comfortable and the bedroom was beautiful. The hot tub was large and we enjoyed the sunrise and sunset views while relaxing in it. The flowers, butterflies and wildlife we saw were amazing. The little touches like the picnic bench outside , we enjoyed our morning breakfast on it, solar lights, marshmallows, bath salts , paints, books and games all made our day. We loved every minute of our stay. GOLD TOP we loved it.
26/07/2024Donna
Really lovely location and well thought out property. Comfortable beds and lovely hot tub. We had a lovely girls weekend away and enjoyed yoga at The Yoga Garden and exploring Knepp.
12/07/2024Harriet
It looked perfect for our planned escape after put wedding. And it was perfect! Not too far from where we live but enough of a change of scenery to feel a million miles away. It was absolutely dreamy. Quiet and luxurious. The place has so many lovely finishing touches. It provided all the relaxation and tranquility we needed after the wedding.
10/06/2024Rebecca
We had a perfect stay, it was so beautiful inside and out. Perfectly clean. Great to use spa, bikes and watercolours, and bed was so comfy.

Gold top was fantastic - we had beautiful weather during our stay so we were able to enjoy every area, we had breakfast in the meadow and had a bbq in the enclosure garden. We used the beautiful wood-fired hot tub each night under the stars. The bed was super super comfortable and the former cow barn has been converted beautifully.

Everything has be so well thought through and I felt really relaxed here whilst loving the views from the outside area and hot tub. It's a great spot for a bit of stargazing after dark too. Absolutely beautiful converted cow barn, amazing facilities. Warm, hospitable, stylish. The place had everything we needed and more. Great location. The log-burner hot tub was divine, over-looking rolling fields. The beds were so comfortable. We never wanted to leave, and we will definitely be coming back!

Our arrival at Gold Top was seamless. Everything had been provided for us. Nicola was super warm and welcoming. From the stargazing in the hot tub. To the warming up by the log fire inside. The wonderful, beautiful interior design of the whole cabin was so well thought through. We really couldn’t have wanted for anything. The table in the meadow lit up at night with solar powered lights. It really was a spectacular place. The walk to the local pub, fountain Inn was also beautiful. I really needed this break. It was everything and more. I especially thank Nicola the rescuing us from a very large spider.

We spent a lovely couple of days at Gold Top, so peaceful with only birds and the occasional sheep for company! We were lucky to have the weather to enjoy the surrounding countryside with walks recommended by Nicola. The hot tub was the perfect way to relax at the end of the day, we'd definitely go back again!

We had a wonderful Christmas stay at gold top. We enjoyed the public footpath walks to the local pub and surroundings. Booked an amazing meal at the Ginger Fox on Christmas Eve. And spent every night curled up by the fire playing games or reading. The property itself is wonderful and the decor is stunning. Would highly recommend.
23/12/2022Meryl
We had a lovely time at Gold Top! It was beautiful there and Nicola was so helpful in helping plan a wonderful proposal to my partner. We will absolutely be returning, it was very idyllic and even though we had a lot of rain during our stay we were able to go to the pub down the road or relax at gold top.
19/12/2022Kate
A wonderful stay at Gold Top. Comfortable and well thought out with the added bonus of a hot tub. Despite the wet weather we walked out on the many local footpaths and returned to welcoming chocolate brownies sat round the log burner. The beds are amazing and spacious bathroom with great shower. Cannot recommend enough.
04/11/2022Gilly

10/06/2022Jessica
Great stay very quiet. Comfy beds nice decor and well located
01/06/2022Sarah
We had a very relaxing and peaceful couple of days at Gold Top. Loved the surroundings and wonderfully comfortable furnishings (yes, the king size bed is really, really comfortable!). It was partner’s birthday and we wanted somewhere in easy reach from London - it certainly is a perfect escape from the city! We used Gold Top as a base, exploring the coast, local pubs and villages, and enjoying sunny evenings and playing scrabble. Nicola was helpful and welcoming - we have already shouted all about Gold Top to our friends!
18/05/2022Katie
Gold Top is a gorgeous and comfy little den. The location is perfect with lots of things to do within a 10-minute drive. Nicola and Rachel were great hosts and had plenty of great recommendations to share.
29/04/2022Victoria
We booked this stay as a last minute family getaway for us, our 2 children and my parents. We were very lucky to be able to get both The Wisp and The Goldtop to house us all. It was really good fun to have both places just for us and the children enjoyed going from one to the other. It almost meant we could make the most of the sun when it was in the garden of the Wisp and the larger eating areas of the Goldtop. Both properties are gorgeous and I would definitely recommend them both jointly for a larger party or on their own for a couple or smaller family.
20/04/2022Mia
Fabulous stay at Gold Top . Extremely well equipped accommodation in a beautiful setting. Well located for great walks and bike rides as well as fantastic restaurants
13/04/2022Jackie
We had a short but sweet stay at Gold Top, which exceeded our expectations. The dairy building has been thoughtfully and beautifully renovated and was spotlessly clean and comfortable.
11/04/2022Dawn
Gold Top was simply gorgeous. The decor, location, and hospitality were all wonderful.
23/02/2022Jordan
I had such a wonderful stay at Gold Top. Everything was in immaculate condition, the grounds were beautiful, the bed extremely comfortable, and I even saw the barn owl! I will have to stay longer next time. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.
10/11/2021Rosianna
Amazing. Nicole and Rachael made us very welcome. Well designed comfortable mix of rustic and luxury beautiful location.
15/10/2021Jon
Great location to explore the South Downs and warm welcome from the owners.
13/09/2021Gary
We had a lovely time during our week at Gold Top. It was a perfect base to explore the local area, from the children running through a footpath through a corn field on the first evening, to swimming in the sea or bike riding on the South Downs Way or into Brighton from Shoreham. Nicola and her family were excellent hosts and her children adopted our son for football, cricket, tennis and general fun! They were able to give us top suggestions (with good local knowledge) as to what to do or where to go. We explored several places further afield including Wakehurst and had a lovely lunch at Albourne Estate, but it was nice to know we were coming back to a comfortable and stylish barn. We spent several evenings outside with the fire pit and hot chocolate, watching shooting stars. You can be as busy or relaxed as you want at Gold Tops and its definitely somewhere we would recommend to friends and family.

Absolutely lovely place to stay, ideally situated for great walks and cycling. Felt like a little hideaway and was exactly what we needed. Lovely design and very comfy bed! Would highly recommend!

Lovely stay in a perfect place! 4 nights at Gold Top, extremely relaxing. A delightful, quirky property. Spotlessly clean, well equipped and a lovely host in Nicola. The breakfast hamper is to be recommended and the local ice cream treat in the freezer greatly appreciated. We enjoyed evenings in our own personal ‘yard’ around the fire pit. Great walks and cycle routes directly from the door. Amazing massive double bed equated to great nights sleep.

Gold Top is an exquisite place to stay. It’s beautifully designed and extremely comfortable and located in a lovely part of Sussex. We had a wonderful week there.

We enjoyed every moment of our Gold Top holiday. Gorgeous location and the accommodation was both stylish and comfortable. Our kids loved the mezzanine bed! Our host Nicola was very helpful and friendly. Holiday high points included renting a boat to pootle down the Arun river, a day trip to Brighton, swimming at Lancing beach and the nearby Fountain Inn pub. Highly recommended!

We had such a lovely stay at Gold Top, which was easy to get to thanks to a local driver we were connected with. The converted barn is not only beautifully designed but allows you to appreciate the outdoors without compromising on style or comfort. We were able to bike, walk, and kayak nearby during our stay - then return to Gold Top to enjoy the fire outside, watch the sunset and roast marshmallows which were kindly gifted to us. We particularly loved trying the local produce (eggs, meat, bread and ice cream)! With such kind hosts and their attention to detail, we are already planning our next visit.

A little gem in the Sussex countryside….we heard a nightingale song magic. Lots of hiking, amazing weather, dinner at The Fountain Pub & 2 nights at the Gold Top Creme Del A Cream. We really enjoyed our stay - very comfortable.

Had the pleasure to stay at Gold top as the first guests in May 2021 What a stunning charming place Nicola has created We loved just sitting outside hearing nothing but wildlife and relaxing, being in a dark sky reserve area also felt a bit magical. Everything has been so well thought out, from the most comfortable bed, to the tranquility that flows through the whole place. Heading further afield the beach at Lancing is great and Perch serves excellent food. Safe to say the time here has gone too quickly, we will definitely be back

This new space at Northblows is stylish, cosy and wonderfully thought out. It is the perfect bolt-hole to unwind with a book by the fire - inside or outside, cook a delicious meal around the large farmhouse table and get on your walking boots exploring the local area with some of the routes Nicola has kindly mapped out for you. The warm welcome was brilliant and we loved watching the swallows nesting on the terrace. I felt rejuvenated and completely relaxed after my stay here and would highly recommend it. Thank you.

We're super excited to be adding Nicola's latest space. A wonderful addition to the collection. The feedback for The Wisp and Hush Glider Camp should give you a good feel for what it will be like. Book a stay and be the first to write a review!

It was our third visit here and was as wonderful as ever! A perfect way to begin the year, with slow, still days and the wood burner!

It was a perfect stay away from our busy lives, in a cosy, quirky and stylish little bolt hole! Star gazing in the hot tub was highlight. We would most certainly return!

We had a wonderful stay at Gold top, pure calm and relaxation. Star gazing in the hot tub was perfect. We had best nights sleep we've both had in months.

Perfect, peaceful and beautiful. The most wonderful few days at gold top. Personal highlights were star gazing in the hot tub, bike rides through the downs trail and reading a book in the beautiful bed.

We stayed at Gold Top as part of my wife's 40th birthday celebrations, and it was wonderful. The cottage is finished to a high standard, the hosts were really helpful and friendly, and the hot tub was extremly welcome after long days of exploring the locla area!

Myself and two daughters (10 & 13) had a lovely stay at Gold Top. Had everything you needed and was quiet, comfy and relaxing. Was amazing to switch off and not have TV, WiFi and devises. Lovely quality time together and memories made!

We had a perfect stay, it was so beautiful inside and out. Perfectly clean. Great to use spa, bikes and watercolours, and bed was so comfy.

We stayed here the two nights after our wedding, its was such a peaceful spot to come back to after the wedding and a beautiful setting for our first day of marriage, the field and hot tub were amazing.

I absolutely loved my stay at Gold Top. The bed is one of the comfiest i've ever slept in and I just loved the interiors and vibe of the place. Everything has be so well thought through and I felt really relaxed here whilst loving the views from the outside area and hot tub. It's a great spot for a bit of stargazing after dark too. Nicola the owner was so kind and helpful and her attention to detail really shows through in the space. Her pets are amazing too! Maybe you'll be lucky and get a visit from one of them during your stay!

We’ve just returned from Gold Top with our two late teenage daughters and we all loved it. The decor is perfect, the place was spotless, the location great for exploring g and of course we loved the hot tub looking out over the meadow.

Honestly the most relaxed I’ve ever been on a holiday. Gold Too had everything you need for some proper r&r. The host was brilliant too, so so kind and friendly and brilliant communication.

Gold top was fabulous! Really well appointed with everything you'd need. Breakfast hamper was delicious, especially the warm bread delivered on arrival! It was clean, warm, comforting and a wonderful escape.

Gold Top is a gorgeous and comfy little den. The location is perfect with lots of things to do within a 10-minute drive. Nicola and Rachel were great hosts and had plenty of great recommendations to share.

We had a short but sweet stay at Gold Top, which exceeded our expectations. The dairy building has been thoughtfully and beautifully renovated and was spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Great location to explore the South Downs and warm welcome from the owners.
